Breath Practices

Conscious control and awareness of the breath changes both physiological and mental states, allowing you to take control of your mind and body.

Pranayama and Breathwork are powerful healing modalities. Lust for Life Yoga is certified in numerous styles of Pranayama and two styles of Breathwork, each suited to assist with equalizing specific imbalances.

Pranayama

Pranayama

Pranayama is part of the ancient yogic tradition involving cognitive and deliberate control of respiration. The root of Pranayama, ‘Prana,’ is universal energy, cosmic stardust, and vitality injected into us from our surroundings. The breath moves prana throughout our bodies, helping to cleanse us from within.

There are multiple Pranayama techniques, many of which are practiced after physical asana. Yoga classes can be combined with post-practice Pranayama, or Pranayama can be a standalone session.

Lust for Life Yoga utilizes specific combinations of Pranayama to target misalignments you may be experiencing. Our classes are structured to begin the healing you need now, and will evolve as your needs change.

Breathwork

Conscious, Connected Breathwork (CCB), more commonly known as ‘Breathwork,’ is a modern practice of utilizing breath to experience non-ordinary states of mind and consciousness that can lead to deep healing. Circular, non-broken breath is maintained for a period of 30-120 minutes while we guide you through a powerful expedition.

Addiction Recovery Clients: Addiction is a sensation of the mind. Through awareness of the sensation, we can disassociate from cravings and urges through control of the mind through breath. Breathing exercises work quickly, which is why it’s a helpful application when working with people recovering from addiction. Participants can sometimes uncover trauma in a matter of minutes, but profound cumulative effects come from regular, recurring practice.

Private + Workplace Clients: Breathwork is separate from yoga instruction. It’s not recommended to do large group Breathwork sessions as the healing experience can be profound and emotional. For this reason, we don’t offer workplace Breathwork sessions. However, we can accommodate small groups of up to four for private clients upon request and initial evaluation.

Breathing exercises can be intense. That’s why we start with an introductory call or in-person meeting. We want to understand what you’re experiencing in order to ensure we pick the right collection of techniques for you.
